How to Check an Insurance Company's Complaint Ratio

The link below is for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Consumer Information Source. Click on the link, type in the name of the insurance company you want to research on the right side of the NAIC CIS Web site, choose your state, choose "Property/Casualty" for the statement type, then click on the "find a company" button.

When the insurance company is displayed, click on the "closed complaints" link. Choose the "closed complaint ratio report" link. Choose "private passenger" for auto insurance complaints, or "homeowners" for homeowners insurance complaints as the insurance type, then click on the "create report" button. View the results. If the company complaint ratio is higher than the national median complaint ratio, then the company has more complaints than the national average.
